All trees will have a proportion of deadwood within their canopies, some more than others. Many factors will also affect the health of the tree and subsequently, the amount of deadwood.
Deadwood in trees can be a problem for several reasons; probability of it falling from the tree, increased potential for pathogens, aesthetic impact, to name a few.
In some situations (deep woodland etc.), deadwood can be desirable as it offers a unique habitat not found elsewhere. Where there is a risk to people or property, or the ongoing health of the tree is important, or simply the aesthetic value of the tree requires improving, removal of deadwood is advisable.
Much like a haircut, trees can require a trim from time to time to prevent them from becoming unruly! A crown reduction is commonly prescribed to manage the tree within its immediate environment.
In the United Kingdom, this is often because space is limited and trees can become too large for the position that they occupy. By climbing out to the branch tips, we can carefully remove a percentage of the canopy (typically between 10 to 30%) to suitable growth points, leaving the tree looking as natural as possible.
It is worth remembering that poorly executed pruning cuts can have adverse effects on the health of a tree. At Monkey Tree Care, we are uncompromising in the quality of our work and take industry standards very seriously.
At Monkey Tree Care, we don’t JUST do tree surgery. The timber we cut down through our tree care service is used for all sorts of things.
From simple bowl or spoon blanks, carving or turning, or locally produced bespoke garden furniture to firewood of the highest quality, we don’t like to consider any part of a tree as waste. We supply only the finest seasoned, split, hardwood firewood.
Once you have had firewood from Monkey Tree Care, you will never buy from a petrol station forecourt ever again. We burn ourselves so we understand the bug. So much so, if you have a ‘favourite size of log’, let us know and we will cater for your woody whims! Happy burning.
The woodchip we produce from our tree work is allowed to rot down slightly and is turned on a regular basis.
This produces fantastic mulch which has numerous uses, including weed suppressant, soil enhancer, menage substrate, pathways etc.
Again, we genuinely believe that waste is a waste!
